I learned to fly at the Ramapo Valley Airport in the 1960s. My principal instructor
was Irv Balber. I bought my first airplane, a 1958 Cessna 172, from Bill Beard,
who then owned the airport. Some friends I remember are Mariana Gosnell,
who later wrote Zero Three Bravo, about her tour around the country in her Luscombe; Barbara Beck; Jim Moore; Ron, who went on to fly for Zantop; and
Helen, who ran the coffee shop in a converted Quonset hut, where Arthur "Pop"
Christie could be found most days.
